“There has got to be a church where folks that have just been released from jail can find acceptance and be given the opportunity to grow in their new-found faith in Jesus Christ.” These were the words of Pastor Lew Holmes, who had for eight years served as the chaplain in the Fairfax Country Adult Detention Center with the Good News Jail and Prison Ministry.

Sad as it may seem, time and time again former inmates would report that theye did not feel comfortable and welcome in most of the churces that they visited with their families, and so it was the vision of Pastor Holmes that there must be a place provided for these families to gather for worship.

Oakton Baptist Church (OBC) was first home to the Christ Episcopal Church, built in 1875. Over time the original Church building became unusable and their congregation constructed the stone parish house in the 1940’s which now serves as OBC’s sanctuary. As the older part of the Christ Episcopal Church became dilapidated, the Church needed $700.00 to have the unusable original building torn down. The Chantilly Fire Department offered to burn down the Church build at no cost as a training exercise during the summer 1967. The Christ Episcopal Church held services in the parish house until 1968.
